Lake Helen and Lassen Peak

  • We didn't do a good job of getting away from forest fire smoke. Lassen Volcanic is near Redding, which was close to the Carr Fire. Again, we had no trouble finding a campsite though.

  • On the way down the trail, we were overtaken by swarms (evidently it's called a kaleidoscope) of California Tortoiseshell butterflies. There was one in the parking lot that Keira tried to save. It didn't want to fly.
